Thanksgiving Cupcakes

Aunt Gayle wanted them to look like turkeys, what do you think? The picture doesn't do them justice, they are pretty cute, if I do say so myself.. :D Emma helped put the eyes on and made a couple of beaks.. She's my decorator in training.. :D

Happy 60th Birthday Uncle Mike!

I was asked to make a cake for Uncle Mike's 60th Birthday a week ago. I almost forgot about and had to hurry out and get the stuff to make it. I think it turned out rather nicely.  The 6 and 0 are covered in fondant, not perfectly covered, since this was really the first time I have ever used it.

CakesbyCrissy.com

No new cake pictures to share, but I just wanted to update a bit. I now have my own domain name.. cakesbycrissy.com and will be getting it all set up soon. I will most likely just be redirecting this blog to it. That's the easiest way. One of these days I may just get an actual website started, but for now the blog works. :D

I have been thinking about getting food safe certified. That means, I can rent commercial kitchens and actually sell my cakes. That is after I get a business license and all that. I want to start out on the right foot and not break any laws. One of these days, I may actually own my own storefront, but for now, I'd be happy just being able to get in some practice. I may be baking some cakes for the hubby to take in to work.

So, that's pretty much what is going on around here with the cake stuff. Soon, you will be able to type in www.cakesbycrissy.com so keep checking back.. :D

Update: The domain is now live. You will be redirected to the blog for now.

Emma's 7th Birthday Cake in the making...

Here is Emma's cake.. This is completely her design. The fondant was surprisingly easy to use. I colored it pretty easily and rolled it out with no problems. The only fondant on the cake is the lettering. Now that I see how easy it is to use, I just may make another cake soon and try to cover it with the fondant.

UPDATE:
The cake was a HUGE success with the party goers. One of Emma's friends is allergic to tree nuts, and was over the moon that she was able to eat the cake. The people that came that didn't know I decorate cakes were amazed.

Emma's 7th Birthday Cake

So, Emma wanted this cake for her birthday.

I was going to modify it to make it my own and actually cover it in fondant. It would have been my first fondant covered cake. The swirls, dots and bow would have been light purple roses.
I took her to Michael's to get the stuff to make it and she goes and changes the entire cake design on me. She now wants a 1/4 sheet with pink roses and fondant lettering. Oh well, at least she changed it now instead of after I had it started. I will be making the cake in about 9 days. So keep checking back to see what I came up with for her.

My Great Niece Laurel's First Birthday Cake

My niece Beth asked me if I would make Laurel's birthday cake. I was happy to. Once we decided on the theme, the rest came naturally. I also made her a smaller cake all of her own.

Here is the little cake.
