Long time no see/talk...

 Hello Everyone!

Wow it's been a while. Lots happened, yet nothing happened.. LOL!

Emma graduated high school, and we finally moved to FLORIDA!!! 

I haven't had a chance to look up the cottage food laws here yet, but will get to it eventually. I have been busy getting the new house together. I would love to get new appliances before I do too much planning. 

I have baked more here I think than I did in Minnesota. Emma has been gluten free for almost a year now, so in order for her to get a baked treat, I have to make it. There are a few gluten free premade treats she can eat, but the taste just isn't there. We have found some pretty tasty gluten free cookie and cake recipes. I haven't quite decided yet, but I may only make gluten free cakes and cookies. It is easier since we only buy gluten free flour and ingredients now and I don't want to cross contaminate my pans, utensils and such, although that is not really and issue with her. She isn't allergic, and doesn't have Celiac, she's just intolerant.

Update...

Hi everyone! I know I haven't updated in a really long time, but I haven't been doing anything cake related lately. I haven't even made cakes for my family. Emma had cupcakes for her birthday that the girls decorated themselves, so there really wasn't much to show from that. I didn't even make a cake for my hubby's birthday this year. I still have the Wilton Course 3 to do and will get to that eventually, but right now, I have a different focus.

Just a quick update..

I just wanted to give a quick update as to what is going on with Cakes By Crissy. In all honesty, not much has been happening. I haven't really had any time. I bought the Wilton Course 3 supplies and book. That is as far as I have gotten. Since the classes through Michael's and JoAnn don't work for my schedule, I thought I would teach myself. I kind of prefer to learn that way anyway. Once I feel comfortable enough with that course, I will get Course 4 and do that one as well. Then, maybe, Cakes By Crissy will finally be open for business. This probably won't happen until we find a new house and get settled in.

So, keep checking back for updates. Sorry for all the delays. As always, friends and family can ask me to make a cake for them and I would be happy to. Just shoot me an email, text, or call.

With the new Cottage Food Law here in Minnesota, I will be opening Cakes by Crissy to sell my cakes. I have a few cake classes I want to work on before that happens. Keep checking back  for more information.

Emma's 10th Birthday!!

So my little girl is now in the double digits. She had a special request for her cake this year. She wanted a two tier, tie-dye cake decorated with rainbow colors and a big smiley face. There's not much else to say about it. She had some new friends come to her party this year that didn't know that I am a cake decorator, so they were really blown away when I told them I made the cake. The girls loved it.

Fishing Cake

Bill asked me to make his dad a birthday cake. His dad has been up north at his property for quite a while and has to leave Monday to head back to Nevada before his birthday to renew his license so he won't be here for it. Bill wanted a fish themed cake. So, Em found a picture of a cake she wanted me to make. I just spent about 2 hrs sculpting a little fisherman, a fish and some rocks.  I baked the cake and decorated it this morning/afternoon. 

Wilton Course 2: Final cake

I finished Wilton Course 2 on June 3rd. I remembered to take a picture of this cake before we cut into it.

I am not sure when I will be able to take Course 3. It's looking like maybe September right now, unless I can squeeze it in between dance stuff and vacation. September is probably good though. Em will be in school and she won't have to come to class with me.

As of right now, I don't have any plans to make any cakes. The hubby's birthday is in September, so maybe then. I'll post if anything comes up.

The Wilton Course 2 classes are going well. I have learned 7 new flowers. I think my favorite is the daffodil. It is quick and easy. We don't have class Monday, May 27 because of Memorial Day, but will resume with the last class on June 3rd. That is when I get to do my final cake. I will need to bake a cake and ice it, make all the flowers I will need, and buttercream icing.  Here are some pictures of the flowers I have made. They aren't the greatest as I was just learning... I will post a picture or 2 of the finished cake before we cut into it this time.. :D

Wilton Cake Decorating Course 2

I signed up for Course 2. It starts May 6. I will update as I can. Em is in full swing competition season right now, her 2nd competition is tomorrow, 4/27, she has another in May and then we will be preparing for recital in June. Here's a pic of her and her team from the 1st competition. They won 1st in their division and 3rd overall.. She's on the left with her leg up.

Sorry, I forgot to update about the Wilton Cake Decorating Class. Life has been a little crazy around here the past month. I have completed the course. I learned how to make a shaggy mum and a pompom flower. Other than that it was pretty much all a review for me. I still plan to take course 2, but not sure when I will get to that. It may have to wait til April or May.


Emma's 9th birthday came and went. We had a pretty low key party for her. She wanted animal print and a movie night, so we combined the 2 and had a Safari Movie Night. All the girls we invited came. It was pretty fun. Em has such sweet friends. She wanted a chocolate chip cookie cake this year, so that was easy.  It's not the best decorating job, but I really didn't have much time to work on it.

I'll try to update more often, but not sure how that will go with Emma's dance competitions coming up soon.
